Don't spend too much time on the entrance essayJul 25 2005Computer Science
Don't spend too much time on the entrance essay - it's only worth about 2% of getting into Michigan. GPA is the most important criterion - do well in your classes especially sophomore and junior year.
ACT: 30 Male
I had a great SAT score but mediocre GPAMay 16 2005Business - Management and Administration
I had a great SAT score but mediocre GPA. It was my essay that got me in, no doubt. It treaded the boundary between emotion and cliche, but I think it turned out well.
SAT: 1460 Male

I worked very very hard in high school, and was accepted after being wait-listed with a 3.7 GPA, a 31 ACT, a great essay, and a fair amount of EC activities. It is very hard to get in, I had friends with 4.0's that were team captains that didn't get in. Work hard in high school and study hard for your ACT/SAT's, take them many times.
ACT: 31 Female
It's very numbers-based, although they're trying to get awayMar 26 2005Undecided
It's very numbers-based, although they're trying to get away from that. If you have the grades and test scores, don't worry. If you don't, do your best to make yourself stand out by conveying what you can offer that no one else can. That's a boring answer, but it's true.
SAT: 1490 Male
Wow, I read all of these other comments andMar 18 2005Astronomy
Wow, I read all of these other comments and was pretty surprised to find how hard people worked to get in.. I had a 3.0 GPA and an 1180 SAT score, but I had tons of extracurriculars and a stellar rec from my counselor. I also attended summer programs at University of Vermont and Harvard Univ. for college credit, so I'm sure that factored in as well..
